Evelien Masschelein appointed Director of Expertise & Think at Enabel

With Evelien Masschelein, Enabel, the federal government’s international cooperation agency, appoints an experienced insider. Masschelein was country representative for Enabel in Morocco and also responsible for the agency’s activities in Mauritania and Tunisia until the end of 2023.

The new Director of Expertise & Think started her career working on innovation at the University of Leuven, first in a research project and then as a policy expert. She then worked for a strategic policy unit under the Flemish Ministers of Work and of Education. She moved to Ecuador where she was country representative for VVOB, the Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance. She joined Enabel 7 years ago as an education specialist in Palestine.

Evelien combines excellent policy and research capabilities with solid and proven management experience in various contexts. Her passion lies in encouraging teams to create impact in difficult situations and to see where expertise can be developed and put to best use.

“Expertise is at the core of Enabel. Global challenges are becoming increasingly pressing and complex. We need to stay on top of them and come up with innovative solutions that have a lasting impact,” says Managing director Jean Van Wetter.

“I am convinced that Evelien will enable the organisation to mobilise the best Belgian and European expertise and know-how for our partners. Her years of experience in the academic world and the public sector and in an international context will be particularly valuable in further positioning Enabel as a leading organisation, recognised for the quality and relevance of its expertise,” adds Van Wetter.
